#OurStoryIsOne: Celebrating Unity, Equality, and a Shared Destiny

#OurStoryIsOne

Introduction: In a world often divided, there are stories that bridge the gaps and unite hearts. The #OurStoryIsOne campaign, launched by the Baha’i International Community (BIC), is a testament to the power of collective destiny and shared values. This global initiative commemorates the 40th anniversary of the execution of 10 Baha’i women in Shiraz, Iran, who were hanged for their unwavering belief in a faith that champions gender equality, justice, and truthfulness. Their courage sparked a worldwide wave of support for the persecuted Iranian Baha’i community.

Honoring the Legacy:

The #OurStoryIsOne campaign pays tribute to these 10 brave women and extends its dedication to all women in Iran, regardless of their faith or background, who have played vital roles in the struggle for gender equality. It calls for artistic contributions to honor not only the 10 but all the women in Iran who have contributed to this ongoing battle for justice.

Honoring Black History Month

An annual celebration of African Americans’ powerful legacy, Black History Month has been honored in California—and nationwide—every February for nearly 100 years, beginning with Carter G. Woodson’s establishment of Negro History Week in 1926. This year, though you’ll find a few parades and festivals remain on pause, there are still plenty of ways to recognize Black excellence in the Golden State and reflect on the continued struggle for racial justice across the country.
“Both the natural landscape and built environment of our state are filled with the significance of California’s African American past,” says Susan Anderson, history curator of the California African American Museum (CAAM) in Los Angeles. “Black history is often under-researched and underrepresented, and there is so much out there for people to experience year-round. Black History Month is a way of opening that door.” Explore, honor, learn, and uplift Black history in California through these February events and others that you can experience any month of the year.

Area Baha’is Take Part in Interfaith Discussion Concerning Refugee Crisis

A large interfaith event concerning the treatment of refugees took place last month in San Bernardino, sponsored by the Ahmadiyyah & LDS faith communities.  As it turned out, it was also a very significant one for the Baha’is to spread our views of oneness.  It is truly exciting to be included, and provide those in attendance a new hope for humanity – especially considering the many oppressed areas which exist in San Bernardino.
